Coffee, a Condom and a Vacuum

It's not what it sounds like. Some very smart outside thinkers from the University of Chicago have created used a different approach to robotic hands. Instead of trying to emulate a human hand, full of tendons and complex bone structures, they've gone back to basic mechanics.

We've all had a chance to play with some sort of powder in a rubber bag (again, not what it sounds like), and it's the way the particles interact with each other that can cause this change of state. Using coffee, a rubber sack and a vacuum, they achieved some very cool results. Skip to 42 seconds.
